Carbon Reduction Plan

1. Commitment to Carbon Reduction

LH&E Cost Consultancy recognises the urgent need to address climate change and is committed to reducing its carbon emissions in line with the UK Government’s target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. As a responsible business in the built environment sector, we aim to integrate sustainability into our operations, projects, and client services.

3. Emissions Reduction Targets

We have set the following carbon reduction targets:

  • Short-term (by 2028): Reduce total carbon footprint by 30% from 2023 levels.
  • Medium-term (by 2035): Achieve a 60% reduction.
  • Long-term (by 2045): Achieve net-zero carbon emissions.

 4. Carbon Reduction Initiatives

LH&E will focus on the following key areas:

4.1 Office Operations

  • Transition to 100% renewable energy suppliers.
  • Improve office energy efficiency by installing LED lighting, smart thermostats, and insulation.
  • Encourage a paperless environment by digitising documentation and using cloud storage.
  • Implement a waste reduction and recycling policy.

4.2 Travel and Commuting

  • Promote hybrid working and reduce unnecessary travel.
  • Encourage the use of public transport, cycling, and walking.
  • Phase out petrol/diesel company vehicles and switch to electric or hybrid models.
  • Offset emissions from necessary air travel using certified carbon offset schemes.

4.3 Procurement and Supply Chain

  • Prioritise sustainable suppliers with strong environmental credentials.
  • Incorporate carbon impact assessments into procurement decisions.
  • Work with project partners to promote low-carbon construction practices.

4.4 Staff Engagement and Training

  • Conduct annual training on sustainability and carbon awareness.
  • Create a Green Champions Team to lead initiatives internally.
  • Encourage employee-led ideas and innovation on carbon reduction.

4.5 Digital and IT Infrastructure

  • Use energy-efficient servers and cloud services.
  • Recycle and responsibly dispose of electronic waste.
  • Extend the lifecycle of IT equipment through proper maintenance and reuse.

5. Monitoring and Reporting

• Carbon emissions will be measured annually using recognised standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

• Progress will be tracked via an annual sustainability report shared internally and with clients upon request.

• The plan will be reviewed and updated every 2 years to reflect new technologies, legislation, and company growth.

6. Offsetting Strategy

While reduction remains the priority, LH&E will invest in verified carbon offset programmes (e.g. tree planting, renewable energy projects) to address residual emissions where necessary, particularly in Scope 3.

7. Governance

The Managing Director and the Sustainability Lead (to be appointed) will oversee the implementation of this plan. Regular reviews will be presented at board meetings and client sustainability audits.

8. Statement of Commitment

We understand that climate action is a shared responsibility. Through this Carbon Reduction Plan, LH&E Cost Consultancy commits to continuous improvement in its environmental performance and to leading by example within the industry.
